Let me ask you something: have you ever Googled your own business and wondered why you’re not showing up? If you have, you’re not alone, and you’re definitely not broken. You just haven’t been introduced to SEO in a way that actually makes sense yet.
At the Madison Mompreneur Summit, I decided to skip the jargon and the tech-speak and explain SEO the way it was always meant to be understood, with a Jenga game.
Yep. A Jenga game.

So… What IS SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, which sounds intimidating, but here’s the simple version: it’s how you help Google find you and recommend you to the right people.
Think of your online presence like a Jenga tower. Every block represents something that helps to build your online authority: your page titles, your blog posts, your images, the words you use, directory listing. When all those blocks are stacked well and in the right place, your tower is strong. Google and LLM (Large Language Models) notice strong towers and put them at the top of search results.
But when pieces are missing, out of place, or ignored? Your tower wobbles and Google/LLMs moves on to someone else’s.
The Three Layers of Your Jenga Tower
In a Jenga tower, every layer is made up of three blocks. In SEO, those three blocks represent the three foundational pillars you need to build — and they have to work together for your tower to stay strong:
🧱 Block 1: On-Page SEO
This is everything happening directly on your website: your page titles, the words you use, your headings, your images, and your content. It’s making sure your site clearly tells Google/LLMs (and your visitors) exactly what you do and who you serve.
🌐 Block 2: Off-Page SEO (Your Reputation)
This is what happens outside your website; think of it as your online reputation. Reviews, other websites linking back to you, mentions across the web. Google/LLMs pays attention to what others say about you, not just what you say about yourself.
📍 Block 3: Google Business Profile (GBP)
Your Google Business Profile is one of the most powerful (and most overlooked) SEO tools for small business owners. When someone searches for a service near them, a complete and optimized GBP is what gets you showing up on that map, right in front of local customers who are ready to buy.
SEO is a Slow Build and That’s a Good Thing
Here’s what I love most about the Jenga analogy: you don’t build the whole tower at once. You add one block at a time. That’s exactly how SEO works.
SEO isn’t a quick fix, it’s a long game. But when you’re consistent and you build each layer with intention, the payoff is enormous. Unlike paid ads that stop the moment you stop paying, a strong SEO foundation keeps working for you around the clock, bringing the right people to your door long after the work is done.
That’s why I always tell my clients: don’t be discouraged by the timeline. Every block you place is an investment in visibility that compounds over time.
You Don’t Need to Be a Tech Person to Do This
One of the biggest myths about SEO is that it’s only for web developers or big companies with huge budgets. It’s not. Small business owners can absolutely build a strong SEO presence with the right guidance and a little consistency.
That’s exactly what I help my clients do at Pipermache. We take the overwhelm out of online visibility and build your digital presence block by block.
