Feng shui, the ancient Chinese practice that charts the balance of energy, or chi, via scientific calculations, should be present on your website. According to Architectural digest, the goal of feng shui, as we know it, is to invite positive chi into your home so that your life feels both energized and balanced, and it’s a relatively simple way to improve the vibes of your space.
Allow me to explain how this is all related. Since I had enough muscle to move furniture, I remember moving my parents furniture around to find a better flow, one that would suit my restless brain. My space always mattered a lot to me and it still does (a.k.a. endless house projects :-).
Growing up, I would study places I visited to move their furniture around my head, or change/remodel rooms in my head as I drifted to sleep. That process gave me true joy and a calming feeling, it still helps me fall asleep to this day.
Now you are probably wondering if I re-arranged your house after a visit. The answer is yes, I always re-arrange furniture and remodel all houses I visit, expect for the Oval Office, I couldn’t find a piece of furniture to re-arrange on that one.
Now back to my humble life in northern Alabama. I decided to take the plunge and get a certification in UX (User Experience) Design. While learning UX main concepts, I noticed User Experience base design was first used in China with the practice of Feng Shui.
“Feng Shui practitioners believe that the arrangement of a physical space, like how furniture is positioned in a room, could bring someone luck or improve their health and happiness”
The Spruce
It all makes sense now.
We currently spend so much time looking at screens and “living online” that it only makes sense that websites that have a good Feng Shui are more appealing. We want to have that same feel good feelings when we enter a digital space. Wouldn’t you rather have an enjoyable, efficient online space that provides good flow and makes you feel good?
It looks like my years of practicing with moving furniture and designing a more welcoming space has been good practice for my Web designer career.
As I create websites, I will only make website designs with have good Feng Shui. Let me know if you need your website re-decorated or if you need me to move a few pieces of furniture around to give your website a better flow. 😉
What website out there gives you that “good vibe” ?
