5 Signs Your Madison, AL Business Needs a Website Redesign (Not Just a Refresh)

Author: Juliana Piper

There’s a difference between slapping a fresh coat of paint on a house and actually fixing the foundation. The same is true for your website.

A refresh might mean swapping out a photo, updating your hours, or changing a button color. A redesign means rethinking how your site works, how it speaks to your ideal customer, how it shows up in search, and whether it’s actually doing the job of growing your business.

5 Signs Your Madison, AL Business Needs a Website Redesign

As a Showit web designer and SEO strategist based right here in Madison, Alabama, I’ve worked with small businesses across the Huntsville area who thought they just needed a little touch-up, only to discover their site had bigger issues silently costing them leads.

Here are five signs it’s time for a real redesign.

1. Your Website Doesn’t Reflect Who You Actually Are Anymore

Businesses evolve. You’ve added services, narrowed your niche, hired a team, moved locations, or simply grown into a clearer brand. But your website? Still showing the version of you from three years ago.

When there’s a disconnect between how you show up in person, at a networking event, on a discovery call, on Instagram, and what someone finds when they Google you, trust erodes before you’ve had a chance to earn it.

Ask yourself: If a cold lead landed on your homepage right now, would it immediately communicate who you help, what you do, and why you’re the best choice in this area? If you hesitated, that’s your answer.

2. You’re Not Showing Up in Local Search

A pretty website that no one can find is just an expensive digital brochure.

If your site was built without a local SEO strategy baked in, optimized page titles, location-specific copy, proper heading structure, and Google Business Profile alignment, you’re likely invisible to the exact people searching for your services in Madison and Huntsville right now.

This is one of the most common issues I see with DIY sites and template builds that weren’t set up with search in mind. Refreshing your design won’t fix this. A redesign that integrates local SEO from the ground up will.

Signs to look for: You’re not ranking for your own business name, competitors with worse services outrank you, or your Google Analytics shows near-zero organic traffic.

3. Your Site Doesn’t Work on Mobile

More than 60% of web traffic now comes from mobile devices, and Google ranks your mobile site first. If your desktop site looks beautiful but your mobile experience is clunky, slow, or hard to navigate, you’re losing visitors (and rankings) every single day.

This is one of the reasons I love building on Showit for my clients. Showit gives you a completely separate mobile canvas, which means the mobile experience can be thoughtfully designed — not just a shrunken-down version of the desktop. But that also means a site that was built without mobile in mind needs more than a quick fix. It needs to be rebuilt correctly.

Quick test: Pull up your website on your phone right now. Can you find your contact info in under 10 seconds? If not, your visitors can’t either.

4. Your Bounce Rate Is High, and Conversions Are Low

Traffic without conversions is just noise. If people are landing on your site and leaving without calling, booking, or filling out a form, your site isn’t doing its job — regardless of how good it looks.

Common culprits I see during site audits:

  • No clear call to action above the fold
  • Too much text, not enough visual hierarchy
  • Buried contact information
  • No trust signals (testimonials, credentials, results)
  • A confusing navigation structure that makes people work to figure out what you do

A redesign using StoryBrand principles puts your customer at the center of the story and guides them naturally toward taking action. The goal isn’t just a beautiful site; it’s a site that converts.

5. You’re Embarrassed to Share It

This one’s simple, and it’s the sign I hear most often from new clients.

“I don’t even put my website on my business cards.” “I tell people I’m working on a new one.” “I just send people straight to my Instagram instead.”

If you’re actively avoiding sending people to your website, it’s not doing your business any favors. Your website should be your hardest-working salesperson, one that’s on the clock 24/7, answering questions and building trust even when you’re off the grid.

If you’re proud of your work but not proud of your site, it’s time.
