The Case of the Missing Traffic: A Custom Website for Inner Alchemy Reiki

Industry: Wellness
Client: Reiki & sound healing practitioner · Huntsville, Alabama
Launched – May 2026

Before we design a single pixel for a client, we look at the data. And sometimes the data tells a story.

When Laura Levaas of Inner Alchemy Reiki came to us for a new website, her organic traffic report showed something strange: steady growth through 2024, then a cliff in June. Traffic didn’t dip; it fell off and stayed down.

Most designers would have started picking fonts. We started investigating.

The culprit: an events page Laura had deleted during a site cleanup. That one page had 132 backlinks pointing to it, including a high-traffic local events site that was still actively sending visitors to a URL that no longer existed. A hundred and thirty-two websites were telling people to visit a door that had been closed.

That discovery, made in our very first strategy call, before design work began, shaped the entire project. This wasn’t just a redesign. It was a recovery mission.

Meet the Client

Laura Levaas is a certified Reiki Master and sound healing practitioner based in Huntsville, Alabama. Her practice, Inner Alchemy Reiki, offers one-on-one Reiki sessions (in person and distant), sound healing, Reiki certification classes from Level 1 through Master, and specialty offerings like Reiki for pets and homes. Laura is also a writer with a genuine gift for explaining energy work to skeptics. What she needed was a website that worked as hard as she did.

The Challenge

Laura’s online presence had three problems hiding under the surface:

1. The vanished traffic. The deleted events page had severed 132 backlinks’ worth of authority and referral traffic. Every month it stayed broken, that equity kept draining away.

2. No true homepage. Visitors landed without a clear path. And her visitors come in two very different types: locals who already know her and just want to book (“reiki with Laura” is a real search people type, she ranked #18 for it), and strangers researching reiki for the first time who need education and reassurance before they’ll ever click “book.”

3. A growing practice with no structure to hold it. Quarterly certification classes, virtual sessions, sound healing events, a blog she wanted to write, none of it had a home, a booking flow, or a way to capture interest between offerings.

These numbers are very premature as I am writing this a few weeks after launching the website but her online authority has grown as you can see in the graphic below.

Custom Website Design for Reiki Practitioners & Energy Healers

Wellness websites are their own discipline. Our approach to custom website design for reiki practitioners and energy healers starts from one truth: your website’s first job is to make a nervous stranger feel safe.

Someone researching Reiki for the first time arrives with questions they may be embarrassed to ask. Does this conflict with my faith? Is it medical? Will it be weird? If the website doesn’t answer those questions gently and early, they leave — no matter how beautiful the design is.

So before building, we mapped the strategy:

  • Protect what’s working. Laura already held the #1 position on Google for her main local keyword. Rule one of the redesign: don’t break it. We preserved and reinforced every ranking asset she had.
  • Rebuild the events” lost” page at its original URL, reconnecting 132 backlinks to a live destination and turning her referral traffic back into visitors and students.
  • Design the homepage for two audiences at once. Instant booking access up top for the people who already know Laura; a warm, educational journey below for the people who don’t.
  • Give virtual reiki its own spotlight. Distant sessions open Laura’s practice to clients far beyond Huntsville, a completely different audience, searching with different keywords, that a single generic services page would never capture.
  • Answer the hesitation head-on. An FAQ built around the real objections prospects voice in discovery calls, including “is reiki religious?”, so the website handles the hard conversations before they ever happen.

What We Built

A custom Showit website designed around Inner Alchemy’s calm, grounded identity, the kind of intentional custom Showit website design that feels less like a brochure and more like the first five minutes of a session.

A class system built for the future. Laura teaches certifications quarterly, so we designed the events page to run on that rhythm: upcoming classes with direct registration, waitlists that gauge interest before dates are confirmed, and “dormant” sections — pages for offerings she’s planning but hasn’t launched, built now and hidden until she’s ready. We designed the website for the practice she’s building, not just the one she has today.

Copy engineered to convert skeptics. Page by page, we pulled her existing content, restructured it around researched keywords, and kept her voice intact, she’s the writer; we’re the strategists. The blog launched with keyword-guided topics ready to go, starting with “inner alchemy” itself: a term with roughly 1,000 monthly searches where she already ranked, waiting to be claimed.

Video woven into the strategy. Short, natural, phone-recorded videos, Laura explaining reiki in her own words, published to YouTube and embedded on the site, because authentic video is increasingly what both search engines and AI tools reward.

The practical backbone: streamlined session booking, email list integration, video testimonial guidelines that reinforce her local keywords, an appearances section that leverages her podcast features into on-site authority, and ADA-conscious legal pages that stay current automatically.

The Results

The website launched in May 2026. Here’s what happened:

  • Recovery in organic traffic since launch
  • Events page restored
  • #1 ranking for main keyword protected and holding
  • Bookings, waitlist signups, and class registrations are all set up to help Laura run her business more smoothly
